This age category will be competing at this final trials for a chance to be selected to represent the province at the 2017 National Track and Field Youth and Junior Championships (under 18 and 20) which will be held on the 7-8 April in Cape Town. There will be no sub-youth (under 15) age category this weekend and at the Provincial Championships which will be held on the 4 March 2017 and National Youth and Junior Championships in April 2017. The commission is in discussion with the Inter-Provincial committee to consider this age group during the Inter- Provincial Championships to be held in November 2017.
Central Gauteng Athletics Track and Field Commission would be hosting the 2017 CGA Youth and Junior Championships this weekend, Saturday 4 March 2017 at Germiston Stadium.
Central Gauteng Athletics has partnered with JM Busha Investment Group, an investment company based in Hyde park- Johannesburg for a 3 year term. The group has sponsored a total of R 200 000 towards the 2017 Track and Field season. The funds will assist towards ensuring that the standard of our track and field are improved and assist towards transport provision for the disadvantaged areas amongst other technical aspects. These are great news for the development discipline of Track and Field and we hope that this partnership will go a long way in assisting the province to produce world class track and field athletes building up to 2020 Olympic Games and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
CGA Board and Track and Field commission welcomed the partnership which will indeed assist the commission in delivering a high standard of competition to the athletes.
The season has produced exceptional performances building up to towards the selection for the different Championships to represent the province at the South African championships and also a chance to represent South Africa at various International championships such as the 2017 World Championships to be held in London later this year.
