Central Gauteng Athletics in conjunction with the clubs and the families of the deceased runners hosted a well attended Memorial Service in honour of the five runners that died on the 22nd October 2011.
The six runners were knocked down by a car while training corner Olifantsfontein and Lever road in Midrand, Johannesburg on Saturday 22 October 2011.
On behalf of the Central Gauteng Athletics management and the athletics family, we would like to express our sincere loss on passing of the five members of Vodacom Striders, Momentum, Diepkloof and Breakthru Midrand Striders respectively.
Condolences continue to come through the CGA office from sister athletics provinces, MEC of Sports, and fellow clubs in the province. Collectively we have lost running partners, friends and important members of our running fraternity.
The funeral arrangements will be held in Welkom, Vhenda, Pretoria and North West respectively.
We would like to also wish a speedy recovery to Khanyiswa Sthengile, who is in hospital after the incident.
