CGA is very excited to announce the 2013 will see the introduction of a “pilot” RACE WALKING LEAGUE. The aim of this initiative is to encourage more walkers to attend races, thus growing the sport and to find and develop new talent for the province. To this end, 2013 is to be used as a pilot year to assess the feasibility of this initiative, to determine club interest in such an initiative and to develop / fine tune the logistics of running such a league.
Five races have been earmarked as league races for 2013 and we would like to encourage you to get as many of your walkers as possible to attend these races.

With only less than a week to go before the start of the Cross Country season, athletes are looking forward to the season. The 2013 Central Gauteng Athletics Cross Country season will kick start this coming Saturday 11 May 2013 at Delta Park in Randburg. After a very successful 2012 cross country season with more than 10 000 athletes participated over 8 league events hosted in various areas we are hoping to continue on last year’s success. Delta Park is well know of being a tough course but enjoyed by athletes. The 2013 Cross Country Events Calendar will be as follows:

Central Gauteng Athletics 21 km champs will be incorporated in the SA Kwai Challenge 21/10/5km at Randburg Sports Complex this weekend of the 12 May 2013. The 21km race will be starting at 06h00.
CGA Road Running commission is looking at selecting the best team to represent the province at this year’s half marathon championships, which will be held in Nelspruit on the 21 July 2013.
The last year women was dominated by Central Gauteng Athletics with the Kalmer sisters Rene and Christine taking gold and silver respectively and bronze medal went to Nolene Conrad.
In the men’s category, Lucky Mohale got a silver medal in 01:01:08. He will be looking at taking the gold medal this year from the AGN Stephen Mokoka. The junior category 2012 championship winner Sithembile Dondolo is now a senior and if he qualifies he be competing with seniors.

Central Gauteng Athletics and Pick n Pay are back with the 2013 Junior Road Running Series. From the 2012 series, the numbers and the results were outstanding with an average of 1700 kids per event taking on the streets on the 2,5 km and 5km.
The 2013 series is expected to gain the momentum since there’s also competition for girls team to be made up of girls that participate on series. There is also an extra prize to be won by a girl athlete who participate in all events and breaks a Pick n Pay record.
